Meet Caleb Denorme, the new sports reporter at the Winona Daily News

The first time I thought I might want to be a journalist, I was covered in snow in the mountains of Utah during my senior year of high school. A spring break trip with two of my buddies gave me the chance to get some fresh mountain air, but my mind was not completely focused on the terrain ahead.
Between runs on the mountain, I read a website called Massive Report — a news source for fans of the Columbus Crew. They needed writers, and being the soccer nerd and avid Crew fan that I am, I sent in an entirely too complex statistical deep dive into the team's current and previous coaches as an audition. Little did I know that they would end up bringing me on board, changing the direction of my life.
That fall, I stepped onto the campus of Butler University fully intending to become a sports broadcaster. Thankfully, that did not pan out, and I instead found my way to the student newspaper — The Butler Collegian.
I spent the next four years at The Collegian as a sports reporter, sports editor, managing editor and editor-in-chief, all while continuing to produce content on a weekly basis for Massive Report. I wrote more than 240 articles for my portfolio and also developed a deep love for sports writing and connecting with a community. What began as a side project writing tactical reviews about my hometown MLS team turned into career ambitions.
I now find myself in Minnesota, a state I had never set foot in before I first visited Winona. The truth, though, is that I'm exactly where I want to be.
My name is Caleb Denorme, and I will be covering sports in the Winona area for the Winona Daily News. I intend to tell compelling sports stories that highlight athletes, coaches and staff members during my time here.
If you have any story ideas or just want to get in touch, feel free to reach out to me at caleb.denorme@lee.net. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to be a part of the Winona community and tell the area's sports stories.
